Description
A very rare piece. This is a shallow bowl decorated with 2 dragons: one blue, the other is aubergine. The rim and the "flaming" pearls are gilt. Each dragon is chasing a golden pearl over a rich yellowish-green textured ground. There is a subtle iridescence on the yellow-green indicative of age. The decoration is in some instances is slip-applied and in other instances incised. There is piercing done to accentuate the glow of the pearls and to add distinction and detail to the eyes and claws of the dragons. Delicate holes also outline the shapes of the dragons and the scrolls of clouds around. The position of the dragons in the inner walls correspond exactly to the position of the dragons on the outer walls. This bowl appears delicate because of its fine and thin body. However, it is firm and quite hefty. The well defined foot rim is unglazed showing a smooth buff or light honey colored clay. At the backside center is an impressed 4-character mark possibly the Chenghua reign mark (?). Excellent condition: no chips cracks or repairs. The bowl is app 9" in diameter and 1 1/2" high.Buyer is advised to research all information provided and to examine photos closely. Seller does not offer returns. Item will be insured for full value.
